Welcome to our village
We may be a rural village, but we are within easy reach of many of Scotland's major towns and cities. There is a saying in Balfron that we are no more than an hour from anywhere! We'd love to welcome visitors from near and far to experience all that Balfron and the Book Festival have to offer.

Getting here
Although Balfron is a rural village, we are very well connected and within easy reach of Glasgow, Stirling, Milngavie, Balloch and all the Stirlingshire villages.
By pubic transport
A regular McGills Midland Bluebird bus service (X10, X10A) operates to and from Balfron, with hourly services from Stirling and Glasgow almost all the way up to midnight.
By car
Balfron is just 20 minutes from Milngavie, 30 minutes from Stirling and 45 minutes from Glasgow by car. On-street parking in the village is plentiful (please be mindful of local access) and many of our venues have their own dedicated parking areas. Venue addresses can be located on the individual events pages.
By bike

Ever since the UCI championships, Balfron has become a popular destination for road cyclists and there is now a dedicated cycle park in the centre of the village in front of the Post Office. It can be a great way to get here but please be aware that some of the roads can be quite busy and there is the odd hill along the way!

By taxi
Most taxi companies in Milngavie, Stirling and Glasgow will be happy to take you out to Balfron. Our local taxi company, Clachan Cabs is based in Balfron and can be contacted on 07733 13531.

The Balfron Wolf
The story goes that one day, when the men were out of the village, wolves came down from the hills and made off with the children. The word BALFRON means “town of mourning,” and it is said that this name comes from the sorrow that was felt when the children were taken. Do you think the Balfron legend is true, or is it just a scary bedtime story?
